Michael Martz named to 40 under 40

In 2006, Michael Martz of Leider Hayes Commercial Real Estate completed 31 lease transactions totaling 164,710 square feet and more than $8 million.
He helped negotiate three sales transactions valued at approximately $11.5 million, including the sale of the historic Old Mill Shops in Solvang and the Comfort Inn in Santa Maria.
Martz as worked with national tenants including Baskin Robbins, Subway, TD Ameritrade and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, as well as regional tenants such as Santa Barbara Bank & Trust.
He is responsible for the leasing of several retail centers on the Central Coast, including the Woodland Plaza Shopping Center in Paso Robles, the Curbrail Albertson's Center in Atascadero and the Magnolia Ralph's Center in Goleta.
Martz earned a bachelor's from the University of Kansas and a master's of business administration from Pepperdine University.
He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a certified commercial investment member, a designation held by about 6 percent of the total commercial real estate practitioners nationwide.
What was your first job?
"As a teenager growing up in Kansas, I mowed lawns during the hot and humid Kansas summers. When I hear peole compain about 'hot' days in Santa Barbara, I have to laugh. 'Hot' is a relative term."
What are the next three movies you're getting on Netflix or going to watch?
"Cars - my 4-year-old son, Colin's favorite movie, 'The Departed' and 'Borat.'"
What are your three favorite songs on your iPod?
"'The Adventure' - Angels & Airwaves, 'Bittersweet Symphony' - The Verve, U2 - 'I Will Follow.'"
Do you have a role model? Who and Why?
"My parents - they have been married for 47 years, raised two sucessful sons and are now enjoying their grandchildren and their much-earned retirement. I strive to do the same."
